The Mikes welcomed Shrewsbury DC to Braemar Road Playing Fields for a friendly against a well-established MJPL team who had played together for 5 years and with the Mikes only being 3 weeks into the project and with the lads starting to gel well, but not getting the results they deserved it was hoped that things would come together.
The game started with the Mikes playing 4-5-1 and playing well, with Ethan and Harry in the centre of midfield moving the ball quickly and the team keeping possession and some great movement allowing them to pull the Shrewsbury defenders all over the place and after only 1 minute the Jamiro won a free-kick just outside the Shrewsbury area and as they lined up the wall Jack A stepped up to fire over the wall, but the Shrewsbury keeper seemed to have it covered but fumbled the ball and into the net to make it 1-0. The Mikes were looking the better team at this time and were looking assured at the back with Hayden & Finlay in the middle winning everything and Les & Rush covering the wings well and when Shrewsbury did manage to break through George in the Mikes Goal made some good saves, however, on 21 minutes from a Mikes corner the ball was cleared and Ethan played a strong back pass towards George in the Mikes goal, but the reaction to the pass and positioning allowed the Shrewsbury No.10 to nip in and round George and pass the ball into an empty net to make it 1-1. This did not stop the Mikes from playing their football and two minutes later a flowing move from the back allowed Harry and Ethan to exchange passes in the midfield before Ethan attacked the space and with Christopher, Jamiro & Ryan looking to run in behind the defence and the defenders tracking their runs and making space for Ethan to stride on and shot from 20 yards and again the keeper looked to have it covered but it dipped at the last moment to bounce high over the keeper and make it 2-1. The Mikes kept playing their football but the Shrewsbury management made several changes on 30 minutes and the fresh legs inspired the Shrewsbury best period of the match and after 36 minutes some great passing moved the Mikes defenders around and released the Shrewsbury No.9 who protected the ball and as Hayden went to block his shot his momentum took out the striker and the Referee pointed to the penalty spot and the No.6 gave George no chance in the Mikes goal to make it 2-2. The Shrewsbury team were showing their experience at this time and were unlucky not to go ahead when on 41 minutes a corner from the left wing was never really cleared and left Rush at the back post with three Shrewsbury players and a good cross was headed against the bar and cleared to safety, and the Mikes saw out the half to see the score remain level at half-time.
The second half never lived up to the first with both sides cancelling each other out and neither team causing either keeper too many problems and with Casey in gaol for the Mikes this half the back line were looking assured. There was a lot of huff and puff by both teams without creating any clear chances but with balls flying across the six yard box on both sides but on 74 minutes the Mikes engineered the best chance of the half when from a Shrewsbury corner the ball was not hacked away but they moved the ball out well to Ethan who played the ball onto Ryan who attacked his full-back before pulling the ball back for Les to hit a great cross into the box where Christopher had pulled his centre-half to the front post under the ball and Jake had taken his maker to the far post allowing the Mikes midfielder to ghost in but his header flew over the bar, and the game petered out the game remained a stalemate at 2-2.
