Mikes Given Lesson

Good last 20 minutes

The Mikes welcomed Coton Green to Braemar Road Playing Fields for a League game against a team with a similar record and with Casey & Leslie not available and Ryan out injured it was going to be a hard game for both sides.

The Mikes started well moving the ball and playing some good football but on 8 minutes a double mistake cost them the lead as Rushan made an uncharacteristic error in controlling the ball on the edge of the 18 yard are the No.7 stole the ball and fired at goal but George misjudged the flight of the ball and allowed it to fly past him to make it 0-1. The Mikes then started to make errors all over the pitch and after 28 minutes Rushan dived into a tackle only to bring the Greens player down and the Referee awarded a penalty, but George dived well to his right to save the kick and keep the score at 0-1. The Mikes settled down and tried to again play the ball around and on 34 minutes Jake looked to be in on goal but what looked like a two footed tackle in the box went unpunished but as the game moved towards half time the Mikes won a corner on the right wing and Ethan played in a great ball that allowed Charlie to attack and head a powerful header into the net and make the half time score 1-1.

The second half started again with the Mikes given the Green players too much room and after only 5 minutes of the half they allowed the Greens No.11 time to get his head up and play in their No.9 to lift the ball over George and make the score 1-2. On 60 minutes they should have increased their lead as a mix up between George and Finlay saw George drop the ball at the No.11 feet and with the goal at his mercy he screwed his shot past the post and on 67 minutes the No.10 hit a shot that thundered back off the post. The Mikes kept trying to find a way through and their best chance came on 88 minutes when a free-kick was won on the right wing and a good ball was played into the edge of the six yard box and Charlie managed to get free but his header was to near the keeper who turned the ball over the bar and as time ran out, again individual errors had cost the Mikes a point.
