The Mikes welcomed Brackley Town Under 17s to Braemar Road Playing Fields for a League game against a team with a similar record and with Ryan out injured and Ethan, Harry and Chris not available it was going to he hard for their depleted squad.
The game started with the Mikes playing with the wind at their backs and from the start they controlled the ball and moved it well without causing the Town defence too many problems but after only 7 minutes they took the lead when Leslie played a long ball towards the far post and as several players jumped for the ball but they all missed it and as it dropped at the far post Finlay was unmarked to head into a empty net and make it 1-0. The Mikes had total control of the game for most of the rest of the half with Town only making sporadic moves into the Mikes half but too many times the Mikes players were over hitting passes and crosses with the wind and allowing the Town players to easy see off the danger. The Mike thought they had increased their lead on 26 minutes when a long ball through looked to be easily collected by the Town keeper but he mishandled the ball and Jake ran through to tap home only for the lineman to flag him offside. The Mikes then won a corner on 41 minutes but as the ball was played in behind the Mikes players attacking the corner and this allowed the Town players to break allowing them to out number the Mikes players 4 on 2 and they moved the ball well to the No.19 who just got his shot off before Rushan could close him down and George in the Mikes goal got his hand to the ball but just could not direst it past the post and it crept in at the far post to make it 1-1 and the score remained the same until half time.
With the Town now having the use of the wind the Mikes knew that they would need to weather the storm coming their way but this half the Mikes were using shorter passes to move the ball and moving it faster were causing the Town players problem they didn’t cause the Mikes in the first half and after 53 minutes they played some good flowing football and as the ball arrived at Christopher on the edge of the 18 yard area he flicked the ball over two players heads and out muscled the centre-half before firing across the keeper who made a good save but Max was the first to react and raced in to tap in at the far post to make it 2-1. The Mikes were defending well with Rushan and Adam having great games in the centre of defence and Lee & Leslie nullifying the threat from the wings but due to the wind again the Town players were too often over hitting passes just like the Mikes did in the first half but on 57 minutes the Town went close when Casey made a great flying save to turn the ball away from a shot from 30 yards. The Mikes were playing some great football and moving it quickly and with great accuracy and on 64 minutes they increased their lead when they played the balm from the back and Christopher’s pass released Jamiroquai who outpaced his marker and again he shot across the keeper who made a good low save but again the Mikes players were first to react and Christopher had made up the ground to tap the ball home and make it 3-1. As the game went on there were some very robust tackles made by both sides but the Referee was allowing them to carry on but some of the tackles by the Town players were two footed and dangerous and the Mikes were lucky none of their players were injured, but after the third goal the nearest the Town came to fight back was on 78 minutes when a cross to the far post of the Mikes area was headed towards goal but looked to be off target until the wind caught the ball and directed it onto the post and hit Casey and went out for a corner, the game fizzled out with the Mikes looking the most likely to increase their lead.
