REPORT | Stourport Swifts 1-1 The Mikes
Unbeaten run stretches to five.
This was probably a fair reflection of ninety minutes honest endeavour by both sides, although the Mikes will be disappointed to have dropped two points after conceding a late equaliser to their hosts.
Following the FA Vase win on Saturday there were enforced changes to the line with Alister Brauns and Jason Holmes missing through work commitments whilst J’Cee Abraham was not deemed fully fit after leaving the field injured at the weekend. Conor Wright
returned at right back and had his best game in Mikes colours whilst Parez Bromfield
and Kieren Westwood
took the flank positions. Cameron Gayle
moved back into midfield filling the void as skipper Craig Milligan
partnered Harry Craven
in central defence.
Both sides played good flowing football in this entertaining game but generally it was the visitors who came closest to scoring. On the wide Walshes Meadow pitch which both sides used to good effect it was Stourport’s right flank and Boldmere’s left that caused the greater consternation to both defences. Joe Hanson linked well with Jack Downing for Stourport but several crosses proved fruitless in terms of chances and keeper Lewis Fenney
enjoyed a relatively quiet first half. On the other hand, Reece Mitchell
linking well with Westwood set up great headed chance for Rikardo Reid
but the recently prolific striker mistimed his effort. Mitchell slammed a great free kick against the bar with Zach Jeacock well beaten and Westwood struck the upright after getting on the end of a great through ball before Reid fired a solo effort just wide. Owen Parry
whose energy in the middle of the park was a key factor in his side’s first half dominance was unlucky to be booked shortly before the interval after the referee’s assistant intervened following a 50/50 tackle with Joe Billingham.
It did not take Boldmere long to open their account after the frustrations of the first half. Reid was fouled in the inside left position and Parry stepped up to curl home a twenty-five yarder past Jeacock via the underside of the bar. The home side responded well to this setback but solid defending by the Mikes back four and good handling kept them at bay. At the other end there were several heated appeals for a penalty when a Ryan Shaw
shot appeared to be handled and the same player was baulked in the box. Craven had a header cleared off the line whilst at the other end when Fenney was beaten by a Drew Canavan header the upright protected the Mikes lead. Just as the visiting supporters were dreaming of a second successive away 1-0 victory Stourport drew level. Good play down the left saw substitute Mark Danks’ cross for Downing to elude the Mikes defenders and head passed Fenney from close range. It was a disappointing end having put on a very encouraging display with a host of regulars missing.
