Heath Hayes 3-1 The Mikes
By The Mikes
For the second time in a week, The Mikes found themselves on the end of a disappointing away defeat inspired by ex Boldmere players.
The game started slowly with little in the way of goalmouth incident, before ex Mikes man Dave Waple fired the home side ahead from 20 yards after he latched into a flick on.
Ryan Edmunds fizzed in a low cross that evaded everyone, before he saw red midway through the half after an innocuous incident. In a tangle of legs after a tackle, Edmunds and his marker both tried to free themselves and were somewhat shocked when the referee produced a red card for each. There seemed little malice involved, in what was little more than handbags.
The game drifted into a lull as the sides readjusted, before Lee Osborne latched into Jason Holmes flick on but fired wide. The Mikes produced the best passing move of the game to set up an Osborne shot that was blocked, but home side couldn't clear their lines completely. Andy Lewis picked up the loose ball in midfield and strode forward before driving a 25 yard strike low into the net with Jenkins rooted.
Ross Clarke fired a free kick just wide before Hayes re-established their lead. Alex Forde seemed to be fouled as he headed clear and the ball dropped invitingly for a superb strike across Lewis Fenney into the top corner.
Osborne was denied by Jenkins before Waple notched the crucial third goal, being on hand to steer the ball home after The Mikes failed to clear a low cross. Sub Mark Rose then got a sight of goal but Jenkins got down to comfortably gather his scuffed effort.
The Mikes week was summed up when they were awarded a stoppage time penalty, but Osborne was denied by his former team mate Jenkins.
