After suffering a 0-3 home defeat by Southern League Premier Division Central side Rushall Olympic in their opening pre-season friendly 5 days earlier, Boldmere St Michaels bounced back with a 2-0 away win over Hallmark Security League Division 1 South side FC Oswestry Town at Park Hall Stadium on Saturday.

The Mikes fielded one side for the first half before making 10 changes at half time with only Rikardo Reid playing the whole 90 minutes.

After a scoreless first half, Boldmere took the lead in the 75th minute when half time sub Kyle Byrne's low forward ball through the middle found fellow half time sub Steve Simpson, who beat 2 defenders before cutting the ball from his right foot onto his left and firing his low shot from 8 yards through Town keeper Mason Springthorpe's legs into his left hand corner.

It was 2-0 in the 80th minute when Simpson picked up a loose ball in the middle of midfield and drove through the middle beating 2 men before firing his low right foot shot from 16 yards into Springthorpe's left hand corner.

It was, as always seems to be the case on these occasions, a good work-out for both sides.
